Almuerzo Familiar

Something our kids participate at here in NPH is a special lunch which they prepare, serve and clean up.  The idea is the kids learn about cooking, presentation and service.  The lunch itself is provided to approximately 20 adults for Q20 each.  That's less than $3 USD.

The program lasts for several months and the kids are under the guidance of a professional chef.  Sometimes they prepare traditional foods and other times international fare.  Since the food is donated, they have to be creative.

This past Friday was the last almuerzo familiar.  It was a larger turn out than usual and kept the kids pretty busy.  We were served restaurant style with everything brought out to us, our drinks refilled and the kids even had practice with giving us a bill and receipt.

It was neat to see how excited the kids were and how seriously they took their jobs.  I'm confident I've never had more attentive waiters in my life!

The food was delicious.  We had ribs, mashed potatoes, salad and fresh bread.

For dessert we had cream and strawberries.

As you can see, I didn't like it very much.  :o)
